5 Ideas for Making Money While Still in High School
January 10, 2023
Is there something you found in the store that you really want, but you don’t have enough money to buy it? And your parents won’t buy it for you? Or even just to save up money in general? How can you make enough money to save to be able to afford it when you don’t have a job because of school? Well, here are 5 things you can do to make extra cash while in highschool.
1. Etsy
Etsy is a website where you can sell anything you choose. You can sell your art, crafts, furniture, jewelry, clothing items, toys, anything else you can create. If you’re interested in owning your own business, then Etsy is a perfect place to start selling your work, or even selling things you don’t need anymore. The best part about Etsy is that it’s free to start your own shop. All you have to do is set up an account and start selling.
2. Babysitting
Whether it be for a family member or family friend, or even for someone hiring a babysitter, babysitting is a good way to earn lots of cash—and fast. Babysitting may be a bit stressful from time to time, but the pay is worth it. You also learn to be more responsible with the things you do around kids as well as care for another, all while getting paid. Pro tip: To ensure you get paid better and requested more often, make sure you are available whenever you’re needed and offer to help with house chores as well. Parents love that and will be likely to pay you more.
3. Pet Sitting
If you’re not excited about babysitting, then pet sitting is another good option. It’s easy and fun to play with animals, a perfect job for teens under 18. And it doesn’t just have to be a dog or a cat that you watch. It could be birds, ferrets, or many other kinds of animals. If your friends or family have pets, ask them if they’d like a pet sitter. Just like in babysitting, offer extra benefits for the family you pet sit for.
4. YouTube
Making YouTub videos can be really exciting and can also make you some extra money. Determine what your interests are and start making videos about them. Everything from art and exercise to video games and social media challenges. You can make compilations, or share your music, or even sing. You can make videos about anything you’d like, and in the process, if you get enough views, you can start making money because of it. The best way to get noticed on YouTube is also to advertise your profile to other social media apps. Once people know who you are, they are more likely to check out your videos. Pro tip: Make videos on the most popular topics on YouTube to appeal to more people.
5: House cleaning/Yard work
Some kids in my neighborhood go around asking people if they can do yard work for them for cash. And they get quite a few jobs, too. If you don’t like talking to strangers, you don’t have to go up to random people and ask to clean their house or mow their lawn; you can ask people you know. This is a perfect way to make money because no one’s house or yard is perfect and always has room for improvement.
There are so many other ways to make money while still in school. If there’s something you enjoy doing, you can find ways to make money doing it.
